What Will You Do In Dallas Texas?

Although you have many areas to live in the United States, many people choose to call the Dallas Metroplex home. You don’t even need to live in the center of the city to take advantage of all that it has to offer. There are also many surrounding areas that give you easy access to the city but more of a small town feel for the area you call home. One of the benefits of living in the Dallas Texas area is that there are plenty of cultural options for people who reach out and take advantage of them. Museums, arts, music and many other options are available. In fact, you might be quite surprised with the options once you take a closer look at the city. Those museums are not only the large, well known ones, there are plenty of small, specialty museums as well. If there is one thing…

Construction has started on the next apartment community coming to Dallas’ popular Knox Street district. Dallas builder Trinsic Residential has broken ground for a 124-unit rental project on McKinney Avenue north of Knox. Called the Hudson, the seven-story building replaces an aging condominium building near Monticello Avenue just east of Highland Park. The new apartment development will include a fitness center, a dog park and a rooftop "sky lounge" when it opens in 2019. The Hudson is one of several new rental communities in the works for the Knox Street area. Report: FC Dallas turns down offers from San Lorenzo for Maxi Urruti and Michael Barrios

For now, it appears the two attackers are staying put. The last few days have been pretty interesting for FC Dallas fans with the news out of Argentina that San Lorenzo offered to buy attackers Michael Barrios and Maxi Urruti for somewhere in the neighborhood of $4 million. As of this Thursday afternoon, it appears that the dust is finally settling on this rumored deal and that the two will not be sold. Source: FC Dallas have declined San Lorenzo’s bids for Maxi Urruti and Michael Barrios. Called the offers "substantial." — Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) August 31, 2017 This comes on the heels of a report from Jon Arnold at the Dallas Morning News that the Argentine club only offered a transfer for Barrios. FCD technical director Fernando Clavijo said Tuesday morning that despite reports in the Argentine press that there has been an offer made for each player, the…

Former Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes continues impressive preseason for Kansas City Chiefs

Andy Lyons/Getty Images CINCINNATI, OH – AUGUST 19: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs throws a touchdown pass against the Cincinnati Bengals during the preseason game at Paul Brown Stadium on August 19, 2017 in Cincinnati, Ohio. (Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images) Patrick Mahomes was the nation’s leading passer at Texas Tech last season, throwing for 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns for the Red Raiders. His performance prompted the Kansas City Chiefs to trade up and select Mahomes with the No. 10 pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Even in a Chiefs uniform, he’s still tossing touchdown passes. Mahomes provided multiple highlight plays of the Chiefs’ 30-12 preseason win over the Bengals on Saturday night. Near the end of the first half, he found Demetrius Harris in the back of the end zone for his first touchdown pass of the day. He tossed another touchdown pass early in…

Not the Texas I know: The Legislature’s “bathroom bill”

Health Photo by Qiling Wang / The Texas Tribune The public and legislative debate happening in Texas over Senate Bill 3, requiring transgender individuals to use the bathrooms associated with the sex designated on their birth certificates, should give pause to anyone who cares about the health and welfare of our children. The bottom line message this legislation sends to our transgender children and youth is this: Your lives do not matter. Your mental and emotional well-being does not matter. Your ability to focus on your learning, free of the distractions of gender dysphoria, does not matter. It is no exaggeration to say lives are at stake as this “debate” continues. For the past nine years, my clinical practice has focused almost entirely on work with gender diverse and transgender children, adolescents, young adults and their families. Let me tell you a true story that shows exactly how harmful legislation…

DFW a Close Second to NYC in Apartment Building Boom

With new home construction getting more expensive and bidding wars erupting over homes on the affordable end of the spectrum, many new transplants to the Dallas-Fort Worth area — approximately 143,000 of them from 2015 to 2016 —are turning to apartments to meet housing needs in the interim. And while we’ve done a less-than-stellar job of keeping the supply of homes for sale on par with demand, an apartment building boom has filled the gap — almost too well, in fact. With almost 25,000 apartments set to hit the market in before the close of 2017, Dallas-Fort Worth (24,960 units) comes in a close second to New York City (26,739 units) in the march toward more rentals. According to RentCafe, apartment construction is at a 20-year high, with 345,000 units slated to hit the market by the end of the year — a 21 percent increase over last year’s deliveries….

One of Their Own Was Gone: the Story Behind the Iconic Dallas Ambush Photograph

DART police Sgt. Homer Hutchins walked toward the exit of Baylor’s emergency room. Images and sounds from the night flashed in his head. An officer on his knee, pointing a weapon at El Centro College. A young man holding a woman close as they lay facedown on a patch of grass. Voices of radio dispatchers, saying shots had been fired and officers struck. And he thought of what awaited him: the long drive to the wife of a fallen officer. He moved through the hallway with tunnel vision. Just a few more steps to fresh air. Then he saw her. DART police Officer Shamika Sorrells walked through the ER doors toward him. He looked at her and shook his head. One of their own, Officer Brent Thompson, was gone. He held her up as her legs buckled. As she squeezed him, he felt like his spine might come through his…
